Chiparus was very present. A sculptor of Romanian origin who has been living in Paris since 1912, his bronzes representsmodern, emancipated women, dressing in the latest fashion with wide, comfortable and elegant clothing, but her main source of inspiration will be found in the Dance: Paris lives in the 20s to the dance rhythm.” This is a fantastic quality bronze sculpture of an Art Deco dancing lady. This large heavy bronze is entitled ‘Phoenician Dancer’ and was sculpted by Demetre Chiparus. Chiparus’ work was heavily influenced in the 1920s by the art of ancient Egypt and the unveiling of King Tutankhamen tomb. You can see the creativity and the inspiration of the Egyptian art in this piece. She extends her arms out and poses in a theatrical pose. She stands on her toes and dances with her legs close together and bent. This is an extremely detailed piece right down to the tone of her stomach muscles.
